Rockschool Guitar exams are offered to music students in the UK, Australia and over 50 countries worldwide. These exams give students goals to achieve while improving their guitar skills and musicianship.
In Rockschool Grade Exams students play 3 pieces, a technical section (scales, chords & arpeggios), sight reading or improvisation/interpretation and ear tests.
Rockschool Ear Tests for Grades 1, 2 and 3 have two sections Melodic Recall and Rhythmic Recall. While Grades 4 to 8 the Rhythmic Recall is replaced with Harmonic Recall.
Ear Test Types

Melodic Recall
Melodic Recall requires the student to listen to a short melody based on a scale and then play it back on the guitar with a drum backing track.

Rhythmic Recall
Rhythmic Recall asks students to play back a rhythm heard on the low E note on the 6th string of the guitar with a drum backing track.

Harmonic Recall
Harmonic Recall requires the student to listen to a chord sequence which they must play on the guitar with a drum backing track.
